Use this quick guide before choosing. The options shown for your blind may vary with its size and configuration.
1 Choose the power type
Rechargeable battery
Useful when adding mains wiring is impractical or disproportionately costly. No electrician or new wiring is normally required. Periodic charging is needed, and the battery will age over time.
240V hardwired
Our first choice wherever suitable mains power can be provided. Permanent power means no battery charging or battery ageing to manage. Installation and connection must be completed by a licensed electrician.
2 Choose the motor brand
Blindmotion recommendation
Alpha
Our recommended choice for strong value, dependable operation and a broad range of compatible controls.
Somfy
A sensible choice when you already have compatible Somfy RTS blinds, remotes or controls and want to stay within the same system.
3 Choose enough remote channels
For Alpha motors, we recommend Explorer remotes. Their limit-locking feature helps prevent accidental changes to the blind's programmed travel limits.

If you choose Somfy, select a compatible Somfy remote instead. The available Somfy choices are 1 and 5 channel.
You usually do not need one remote per blind. One compatible multi-channel remote can control several motors separately and can also include a channel that operates them together.
Choose No remote required on this blind only when a compatible remote in the same order—or one you already own—will be programmed to this motor.
The simple recommendation
- Existing home: If suitable mains power is available, choose an Alpha hardwired motor for low-maintenance long-term use. Where adding wiring is impractical or disproportionately costly, choose an Alpha rechargeable motor and plan for periodic charging. Use one compatible remote with enough channels for the blinds you want to control independently.
- New build or renovation with wiring: Alpha 240V hardwired motor plus one suitable remote.
- Existing Somfy system: choose the compatible Somfy option to keep the controls together.
Linked versus separate motors: linked blinds sharing one motor always move together. Separate motors allow independent movement and need enough remote channels for the way you want to group them.
